ITMA ASIA 2005 to kick off series of textile & fashion activities Mammoth ITMA ASIA textile machinery showcase affirms its support of Singapore
Fashion Week
Singapore, 9 March 2005 - ITMA ASIA 2005, the 2nd Asian International
Exhibition of Textile Machinery has announced its support of
Singapore Fashion Week (SFW). SFW will be holding a series of
activities designed to enhance Singapore’s growing position
as a textile and fashion hub.
ITMA ASIA 2005, owned by the European Committee of Textile Machinery
Manufacturers (CEMATEX) and organised by Meeting Planners International
Pte Ltd (MPI), will be held at Singapore Expo from 17 to 21 October
2005. It will feature the latest technology in textile machinery
displayed by over 800 international participants from more than
30 countries. This prestigious textile industry event is expected
to draw 50,000 trade visitors over five days. This is the second
time that ITMA Asia, inaugurated in 2001, will be staged in Singapore.
SFW, organised by the Textile & Fashion Federation (TaFf),
will be held from 17 to 23 October. It has the support of International
Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore). Besides a series of fashion
events, SFW will also feature trade exhibitions relating to the
fashion, garment and textile industry.
Taking advantage of the exceptional situation and timing of
ITMA Asia 2005 and Singapore Fashion Week in October, the organisers
of the two events decided to synergise and weave together the
entire fabric of the textile, apparel and fashion scene, from
raw materials and machinery, to completed apparel and high-end
fashion design.
Said Mr Edward Roberts, President of CEMATEX: “Both ITMA
Asia 2005 and Singapore Fashion Week are linked to textiles.
ITMA ASIA, which is a showcase of textile machinery, represents
the start of the process of textile making which culminates in
fashion. We are delighted to confirm our support of Singapore
Fashion Week.”
Mr Edward Ang, President of TaFf, said: “This is the first
time since the inauguration of Singapore Fashion Week 18 years
ago that we are able to pull together all these related events
to provide a multi-dimensional and comprehensive showcase for
the entire textile industry.
“ITMA has the reputation of the ‘Olympics’ of
textile machinery shows, and we are very pleased to shift our
event which is traditionally held in August to October so that
we are able to coincide our fashion week with their Asian showcase.
This will certainly help to further position Singapore as a fashion
and textile hub.”
ITMA ASIA 2005 will feature the A to Z of textile machinery,
right from spinning, nonwovens, weaving, knitting and garment
making, to finishing, testing, handling and packing. It has the
support of the nine CEMATEX member associations, as well as the
Japan Textile Machinery Association.
Ms Sylvia Phua, Chief Executive Officer of Meeting Planners
International, said: “ITMA ASIA is timely as the Asian
textile and garment industry is gearing up to meet the challenges
of a more competitive market environment. This has come about
with the removal of quotas, under both the WTO and FTA aegis,
in the major textile and garment markets, starting from this
year. Consequently, a surge in demand for machinery is expected
for the industry to cater for the higher demand.”
